LIfe in Kenya

We have had some crazy (safe) adventrues! After the batt that was discovered living with us in our room for the last two days we were up till about 2am calming down and laughing about it. I think its a story that just needs to be told in person…so much better that way! After a night like that who doesn’t need a Pemba latte at 2pm the next day, so we sent our driver on a coffee run….two and a half hours later he made it back with our hot-ish coffee on a trip that at the most should have taken an hour. It was just a day of running on Kenya time! speaking of Kenyan time that reminds me how today started….we had ordered some sweet cakes (muffins) to take for the staff today and they told us that since it was such a big order it would be ready at 9am sharp – those where his words not mine. We wanted to make sure we got a nice and early start to day so we left early (….yes…we left early….haha….) we got to the shop at 850am so we thought we would look at a few things till your ready….at 9am we went over to get the sweet cakes and they said it will be a few more minutes bc they didn’t have enough at the moment because they sold a bunch this morning but there was some in the oven. A few min turned in to a few more and then they say said ok now it will just be a few more for the chocolate ones! hahaha….I think we finally left at 945am! we learned that event tho you pay and order something the night before doesn’t mean much =)

We have been working at vipingo the last two days and have gotten so much done! Mom has been able to sit in on classes and learn about how they teach here in Kenya as well as spend time talking and learning from the staff. I have gotten to work on pictures of all the kids, some summer plans for partnering with the older kids in helping us plan for the younger ones. Now that are kids are getting older it has been so cool to see how much the younger ones look up to and copy what the older kids do. When I was taking pictures with class 5&6 all the younger kids were circled around us. you would have though we were playing a game or something nope, just taking there picture and letting them stand in a pose of there choosing. I didn’t think much about it until today when we were taking the younger kids pictures and they started making the same poses as the older kids! It is a great way for the new and younger kids to learn how to smile and not be scared for a picture. I know this is such a small example of influence but its a great starting point for talking to the older two classes about using there influence to make a good impact on the younger kids.
Its hard to tell you how trying to teach a simple lesson here is so difficult – we all speak the same language but say words so diffrently. I was vary thankful for the chance to get to use something that just happened to us together to help everyone understand what I was trying to teach them.

Tomorrow we are going to spend two days in Bomani watching and learning all we can about the school. Please pray for me when i give my lesson to the class that they will understand. I am doing a project with them about how we are made in Gods image and He has made us all different and He wants us to see ourself as He sees us!

*Grandpa, I know you have been praying for our safety and its been so safe because of that! I did want to report that i did get a small blister on my foot today but it has been cleaned and treated! Keep up the strong prayers!! I love you!!!

  1. Just finished reading your b log to your Grandma. Sounds like you are having fun and accomplishing a lot! Sorry about the blister but I guess that is not “unsafe”. We both continue to pray for you both to accomplish all the Lord wants you to as well as staying healthy . After a few days of temp in 40’s it is snowing lightly today and down to 8 degrees tonight with high of 17 tomorrow. See what you are missing?
    Love you lots. STAY SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
