Free Day

Wow, I cant begin to tell you everything about today…it was simply God at work and when you get to see that its truly a blessing that leaves a mark on you. Today was our free day and we were thinking about going to Somalia but seeing as grandpa wouldn’t let us we changed our plans…Just kidding grandpa! Now when I say free I mean check out an rescue center, changing over money, getting coffee, go to the book store in town, check on a few things in town, lunch with friends and teaching in Vipingo…kind of free day.

At the Good News rescue center there was a little girl named Joyce that came running up to me and held on to my leg and just looked up to me with her big smiling eyes. I was sunk, I fell in love with her laugh and glowing spirit! I loved making her laugh and having her talk to me in swahili as we got to see this amazing center, I had no clue what she was telling me but she would point at something and say some things. It was so cute to make up what she was saying and talk back to her, all the staff kept telling me I just needed to pack her in my bag and go with her….I would have if I could have!

One of my favorite parts of today was going to Vipingo to teach. I was sad that I wasn’t able to get to all the classes to teach the lesson I brought because of being sick, little did I know God had bigger plans! I was able to teach class 6 and had class 7 come so that I could teach them after youth group when I started thinking….always scary…haha! I have been working with class 7 on leadership and how they are leaders in the school. What if I left the rest of the lesson for them to teach and this year we are using class 6 in helping lead the kids in activities with us. If your going to form kids in to leaders you have to let them lead so that is what I did. I had class 6 split in to two teams and class 7 split in to two then we had a competition on what 6th grade class tough it so that there students would understand. They both did really well but I am sad to say the boys group won! I then was able to tell them about how i have already see them influence the little kids. then I told them how when we were taking class pic for the web the older kids were doing fun poses and all the kids were around laughing having fun. Well the next day when I had to take some of the little kids pictures again when i asked them to do a pose they started doing just what they had seen the older kids doing! it was so cute and funny at the time and then I started thinking about how much of an impact the big kids make! After telling class 6&7 that story they started to understand more about influence. I left them with a challange, they are to go into the classes I wasn’t able to teach and teach in groups the lesson and the group that teaches the best will get sodas! They were so excited but more then that I think it really made them feel like they had a part in teaching and helping the younger kids. I cant wait till next week to hear all about how the teaching time went for all of them!

I have a lot more story’s from to day, one that takes more setting up to understand but i need to get some sleep before church tomorrow so im off to bed. I will write more of them on the plane tomorrow.

Good night grandpa, this is our last night tucked in bed in Kenya…tomorrow we will be in the air some where. Love you!

  1. Thanks for not going to Somolia! It has been fun and a blessing to read your blogs to Grandma, we almost feel like we are living your adventure and it is a thrill to see how much of a blessing you and your Mom are to these people who are obviously all so special to you two. Have a good nights sleep and while you are about to run out of time there remember to STAY SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
